Business News of the Week:

Microsoft is stating that they sold 8 million Kinect devices over the holiday season. Initial forecasts at product launch were 5 million. With a bill of materials at $56 and Small Business Podcast estimated $20 of labor, for every Kinect sold, Microsoft makes $74 for a profit (discounting R&D and Marketing) bringing the total amount made on this toy to $592 million.

Starbucks is dropping the words Starbucks and Coffee from its iconography.

The Consumer Electronics Show took place last week in Las Vegas. Microsoft shows a push towards more mobile friendly devices by placing its Windows operating system onto an ARM based processor machine. Dell unveiled a new smartphone running and a tablet PC running Android OS. Sony unveiled a portable hand-held 3-d camcorder for $1,500.

The US Economies Trade Deficit fell to $38.3 billion, or 0.3 percent, according to the Commerce Department. The decreasing value of the dollar, due in part to efforts such as QE2, has made it easier for American goods to compete abroad.



Large Business Brilliant Move of the Week:
Goldman Sachs is selling shares privately of Facebook at a minimum bid of $2 million dollars. This avoids SEC investigations as long as the number of private owners stays below 500; due in part to a 1934 law. Goldman Sachs is brokering the deal, but in a brilliant fine print business move, Goldman Sachs says that it will not tell its clients when Goldman dumps its shares. Leaving the last ones out holding onto the bag.
